In this edition of our “Meet the Team” series, we meet Gianni Grim, Clinical Study Coordinator. At Lightship, coordinators sit at the intersection of research and participant experience, keeping studies organized and on track while ensuring every participant feels supported throughout their journey. We talked to Gianni about what drew her to Lightship, what makes the work meaningful, and what’s currently coming off the sewing machine.

Thanks for chatting with us, Gianni! Tell us, how long have you been with Lightship? What brought you here?

I’ve been at Lightship since August 2022, so coming up on four years. I was drawn here because I’ve always been fascinated by the work that happens behind the scenes in healthcare. Lightship gives me the opportunity to support innovative research, continue my professional development, and work alongside people who are genuinely passionate about what we do.

What does a typical day in your role look like?

A typical day involves a combination of coordinating study activities, supporting our research team, and ensuring participants have a positive experience throughout their journey. I work closely with different teams to keep studies organized, maintain quality and compliance, and address challenges as they come up.

What excites you most about working in clinical research?

Knowing that the work we do today has the potential to improve patient care tomorrow. Every study is an opportunity to contribute to medical advancement, and it’s rewarding to be part of a team that helps bring new treatments and therapies to the people who need them most.

What motivates you in your work?

Knowing that what I do contributes to something much larger than any single study. At Lightship, we bring research to participants in settings that work for them: in clinic, at home, or in their communities. Being part of that, while continuing to learn and grow alongside a dedicated team, is what inspires me every day.

What is your favorite part about working at Lightship?
I love that my role combines meaningful work with continuous learning. No two days are exactly the same, and I enjoy collaborating with a team that’s genuinely passionate about bringing research to more participants.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

When I’m not at work, I love spending time with my family and traveling. I also love relaxing by a pool or the ocean, just listening to the waves. I recently picked up sewing and have been enjoying learning how to make all kinds of new things.

Thank you, Gianni, for sharing your story and the care you bring to every study you support. The work of keeping studies on track and supporting participants is what enables us to serve communities. We’re glad to have you on the team. Stay tuned for our next “Meet the Team” feature!
